Well here's what's happened to the vaginal rose piece so far:

I stuck on a bunch of rhinestones and stick-on feet (the kind that you put on the bottom of vases or trivets so they won't scratch your furniture) for embellishment and to simulate hokey dew drops. Finally I took it to the frame shop today to get an elaborate gilded frame put on. I hope they do a good job. I can pick it up in a week. Hopefully I'll take a picture and post it.

Here's what's happening with the eyes :

These are not the same size in real life. The cloudy one is about 4" square and the sunny one is 5" square. They're pretty much experiments in using eyes as flower centers.
This one popped into my head when I was trying to take a nap. The idea for the beads came from a beautiful ring made by a guy called Philip Crangi that I saw in Vogue and Elle a while back. His ring is rather nicer I think. I had the idea of using the eyes this way about a month ago. This piece started out as a study for a much larger (3'x5' or so) painting of flowers with multi-eye centers. When I thought about putting the beads on and how I would go about doing that it became a piece of its own. I got so excited I didn't take the nap. It's not done yet though. I want to strengthen the petals on the far left flower and add color to the far right flower.

I do not know what the meanings of these pieces are if there are any.

In a way they are escapist formal studies. They're something to think about instead of unrest in the Middle East and my discomfort with the machinations of the G.W. Bush administration. And maybe they're a reflection of how life can be both normal and not normal.

Speaking of the machinations of the G.W. Bush administration (and American corporate culture), these peices are not about loss of privacy. Googly eyes are humorous to me, as well as a little unsettling. There's nothing wrong with being unsettled a little on a day to day basis. So maybe these pieces are also a friendly injection of oddness into an ordinary day. If I had to pick something else the eyes could be about I could say they're about how I believe that everything is alive and paying attention. Even rocks and man-made things like toilets and shoes.

The finished pieces were shown at the Art Party the Ladies Power Summit had on March 26, 2002.
